For those interested in getting involved in shaping local politics, there is unbelievable opportunity!

Nearly half of the Republican precinct chairs in Harris County alone lie vacant, and positions in Harris and Montgomery counties need to be filled. Precinct chairs are the backbone of county parties. There are 425 Republican Precinct Chair vacancies in Harris County alone. Both in Harris and Montgomery County, all precinct chair positions are for a term of two years and all come up for re-election in 2010.

How would you like your precinct chair to completely reflect your issues and concerns? If you are the precinct chair, he or she will.

Precinct Chairs represent their party and work within their precinct in the following areas:

* Canvass, organize and campaign,

* Serve on County Executive Committees, and as a Primary election judge, and

* Conduct precinct conventions.

In all open precincts, chances are you will run unopposed and will win. Learn more about this chance to influence the party and become a part of real change that you can believe in.

 Open to the public, ” Be A Precinct Chair: How to Really Influence Local Politics ” workshop is free of charge, although individuals can order off the IHOP menu as they desire. We ask that you RSVP so we can prepare for you.

    I am interested in finding out more about your group, after
    attending one of your meetings. My wife (also a physician) and I are Palin/Reagan conservatives and marginal Republicans.

    Buffie, if you send an e-mail to info@houstontps.org we can hook you up with other people in precinct 262 interested in getting active. There is a precinct chair in that precinct who has filed for 2010, and the contact information can be found here:

    http://www.dataheaven.com/hcrp/pctchairs.htm

    if you just enter your precinct. Your best bet is to contact that chair and see what kind of help is needed, and whether this is someone you’d like to work with. You can certainly file and challenge the sitting chair; just know that the deadline is January 4th and our primary focus is on filling vacancies.
