Ed Hubbard updates Harris GOP precinct chair filings

From Ed Hubbard, candidate for Harris County Republican Party Chair, who has been tracking these numbers for a long time:

Here is an update, as of the last posting by the HCRP at 5:25 p.m., Friday, for the precinct chair filings in the 886 precints  

1. 304 incumbents have re-filed for precinct chair. There are 16 races involving these incumbents, with filings by 17 new applicants (one race has two challengers)

2. There are 36 occupied seats in which a new applicant has filed, but the incumbent has not. There are 4 contested races between new applicants involving these seats

3. There are 48 previously vacant seats for which new applicants have filed. There are 4 contested races for these seats.

In all, there are filings for 388 seats (OUT OF 886!!! – -htps) , with 24 contested races for these seats. There are 109 new applicants (the precinct presentations have had a significant effect! – htps) .

Now for the bad news–with one day left for filing (Monday, January 4th), there are 108 precincts in which the HCRP have incumbents, but no one has filed (and there are still 390 additional precincts where the GOP has no chair presence).

THAT’S SCARY, FOLKS!  Every one of these numbers represents an entire neighborhood, an election precinct, an important portion of the county.  And every number listed represents a leadership vacuum.

If you’re interested in filing, fill out this form, get it notarized, and take it to the Harris County Republican Party HQ (map here) and turn it in MONDAY, January 4th.
