Next Steps for 2010

2010 is here!  What will you do to restore conservative values to our government?

With the new year upon us, and mere weeks until the primaries in Texas, there’s a lot to be done.  And one of the most frequent questions we face at Houston Tea Party Society is: What can I do?

The answer is, actually, quite a lot!

Elections aren’t won in $1000 a plate fundraisers, in back rooms, or in the “halls of power.”  Elections are won in the precincts.  You’ve heard the phrase “Think globally, act locally.”  That goes for politics as well.  Unless thousands of people in our area are willing to act locally on the precinct level, we will never be able to see the changes in Houston, Austin and Washington that we demand.  Houston Tea Party Society has spent the last few months all over our area, concentrating on efforts to build that vital precinct leadership; from developing neighborhood groups to providing election and precinct chair training.  There is so much more to do, so here are some things YOU can do right now to make a difference:

*   Attend meet-and-greets, candidate forums, debates, and other events where candidates will make appearances.  Elections are about principles and values, and how better to judge whether a candidate matches your values and principles than to ask?  Putting yourself in the same room with candidates, listening to them and asking them tough questions can help you judge whether they deserve your support.

*   Find a candidate to support with your time or money.  True grassroots candidates need both kinds of support; financial and foot-soldier.  When you find a candidate you can support, contact that candidate and volunteer to help with that campaign.  You’ll be a valuable asset to the candidate, who will not forget all of your assistance.  And what better way to have influence with an elected official than to be part of the team that put the official in office?  And once you’ve found your candidate, spread the word!

*   Start a neighborhood group.  A lot of people don’t pay much attention to politics because they feel there’s just too much to keep up with.  Joining forces with others in your area can start a habit of activism in your neighborhood and precinct.   Working together on researching candidates, working elections, or studying the issues lightens the load and makes information more accessible to everyone.  That can easily translate into votes for the candidates you believe in!  Contact us at info@houstontps.org to learn more.

*   Work elections.  Whether as an election judge, a clerk, or a poll watcher, you can have a huge impact on whether elections are fair and honest.  When election workers are dedicated to election integrity, we all win.  Contact the Harris County Clerk’s Elections office to learn more about training for one of these positions, and then sign up!

Pass this e-mail on to your friends and family and ask them to sign up for the mailing list at www.houstontps.org.  The more people working towards restoring Constitutional values and fiscal responsibility, the better chance we have at success.  Find ten people who believe like you and encourage them to sign up, and you’ve just multiplied your effectiveness without leaving your computer!

*   Donate to the Houston Tea Party Society.  Your donations will help bring our exclusive “Convention 101″ training to the entire area, support our new informational video project, and spread the message of liberty and accountability everywhere within our reach.

Whatever you decide to do, be sure to share your story with us on our website in the comments section.  Your experience will motivate others to follow your example, and will change the face of the political landscape in our area forever!

Do we have any more information, contact information or otherwise, regarding the school board and their decision on textbooks?

I’d like to write to them, so can you as the nice man who talked about it at the Spring Creek BBQ, on Thursday, Jan. 14th?

    Thank you!
