Bryan’s Tea Party Tribute (Feat. Jennifer Grassman)
We’ve got conflicting numbers estimates: 6-7000 from police at 6 p.m., but a little less than half that signed in.
At any rate, it is so amazing that this many people came out and battled the heat to join us in celebrating our country and committing to take it back. It’s hard to believe all this has been done in only four months!
Thanks, Houston, for a great event, and for making it possible!
On to Cap and Trade in the Senate! New post on that and Healthcare soon!
(Josh on numbers: It’s nebulous. We had trouble signing people in. The Area was way too open to get an accurate count at all, only about 3000 did sign in. There was traffic in and out, and many never even came onto the lawn to stay in the shade. Most people were entering behind me in the media booth in the middle of the north side of the lawn by the lakehouse where there was no sign in. Police told us 7000+ at the end of the day. But there was probably around 4000 there at a time, with people coming and leaving. People said they couldn’t tolerate the heat

The entire event was so well planned. Thank you for your hard work. The heat was indeed brutal, especially early on and probably discouraged many from coming or others from staying very long. But the speakers made up for the discomfort. And the opening prayer by the pastor was marvelous. Hope someone has a video of that fine man’s prayer and posts it. So encouraging to see good people not afraid to call on God in behalf of our country.
Was the prayer nondenominational? Really nondenominational? Or did it end with “in the name of Jesus”? (As so many Republican Party convention “nondenominational invocations” do.)
Anyway — it was a nice pep rally, despite the heat. (That official food and drink place is insanely expensive!) Now we all need to get to work! Find candidates for Congress, get them into the primaries, convince people who don’t usually bother to go vote for them IN THE PRIMARIES and then work some more to get them elected.
Pogo,
Which primary? Repub? Dem? Lib?
David, whichever one fits you best. I’m all for tea party members picking a party and joining the leadership, in order to steer the party (whichever party) towards fiscal conservatism.
Is there a libertarian primary? I never thought about it.
We had a great time at the July 3rd Tea Party. The speakers were right on.
I wish we could come up with an indoor arena though.
Kellye, we wish that too for the summer! It’s very difficult to get a July 4th weekend venue on such short notice. Ah, the next one ought to be better, at the Capitol in Austin in September.
This was a great success! I’ll bet there were 10,000 people there. When I walked all around and took pics, people were pretty spread out. But it was really fun, and you all did a fantastic job. The event got some good coverage. Check out this website by Lindsey Janeway, aka “Crabby Con” on the blogsite “Stop The Liberals Now”. This is a blog I subscribe to and what a surprise – the picture is of me and my friend Christina! http://www.stoptheliberalsnow.com/archives/3719/comment-page-1#comment-8524
I guess it was Dallas’s turn to bring in the numbers, as it seems like that’s where everyone else was!
Thanks again for all you all do.

What I love most about Houston’s tea parties are how true to the cause they are. A recent critique of them argued that many are hurting the cause of conservatism and liberty.

“Plus, while original supporters of bailouts, higher taxes, and higher spending are being booed at some events, other tax and spend hypocrites are being welcomed as speakers and are cheered because they’re playing for the right team aka the GOP. By cheering on the same politicians who created the fiscal mess [that] our country is in, the Tea Party movement continues the same fiscal mess they claim to oppose.”

With Houston, this is not true at all and I’m happy for it. Great job.
ahhh I have to have a lot more myspace fans!
George Bush wasn’t excellent, but this? Who took out the garbage? They missed a piece!
