FAQ
Who are you?
We are a group of concerned citizens who believe government is growing too large and distant from the citizens. For years the government has enacted policies which stifle prosperity. Many of us are Republicans, Libertarians, and Independents, and we invite any sympathetic Democrats to join us as well, all united for a common philosophy for personal and economic liberty.
How did you start?
On CNBC, Rick Santelli gave his famed rant against the Obama administration’s mortgage plan and called for a new Tea Party in Lake Michigan. This message resonated with citizens already sore from the trillion-dollar pork filled “stimulus” package, and who were further outraged by the acceleration of spending and the growth of the National Debt. Within days, online activists got to work and organized Tea Party rallies in 50 cities on February 27th, including Houston’s Discovery Green park, where Felicia and Josh hosted the first Houston area Tea Party.
What do you hope to accomplish?
To promote policies that work, instead of the policies pushed by the Obama administration that history has shown are doomed to failure. We hope to give citizens an outlet to show their frustration and hold our politicians accountable. We also hope to invoke government to cut their increase and spending, especially on pork projects, and to enact policies that encourage growth and prosperity.
Are you connected to The Ron Paul movement?
While we respect Ron Paul and his message, and agree with much of what he says, we’re an independent and new organization that is not connected to him or anyone involved in his campaign. There are some specific areas of Ron Paul’s agenda which we are not openly advocating, instead going for a broader message with greater mass appeal. Any of his followers, which we feel would have a lot in common with other attendees, are free to come.
Edit: Since this FAQ item was written we have had many members of the Houston Area Liberty Campaign join us. We welcome them and look forward to working with them.
Are you connected to the Republican party?
We’re a non-partisan group attempting to create the largest possible coalition to defeat the greatest number of threats to liberty.
Some of our members have been active in Republican Party as grassroots supporters and precinct chairs, but we’re not here in this capacity. We recognize many Republican politicians have contributed to the current political situation. Our membership is demonstrably very tired of both parties and want to be heard, not listen to more empty promises from politicians.
Is this an “Obama-Hate” rally
We do understand that many have been seeing President Obama as the symbol of the problem, and express our dissapointment that he seems to be accelerating it. We do believe that this problem is the result of decades of political malfeasance from our leaders pushing the boundaries of the prudent use of their power. He is also not alone in the ranks of all levels of government and all branches currently in power. Some speakers and attendees may want to vent their frustrations on the President. they are free to do so, and we ask that they stay respectful, but try to look on the bigger picture of what got us here and the solutions.
Will there be elected officials and Candidates there?
Houston Tea Party Society is not in the business of providing campaign events for politicians and candidates. We are not a platform for elected officials and candidates. No one who’s frustrated with political shenanigans wants to come see a politician telling them how they are taking care of you, or why you should vote for them. This is a feeling we share and hear from others and are sensitive to. We invite candidates and elected officials to attend our rallies and hear from the people, but not to speak.

I like what I read above. We need to shed ourselves of the political party “tags” and get on with real work toward returning our country to the basics of Constitutional Law and Representative Republic. Individual Freedoms should not be given away for “Social Justice” or any other means to put Government first and Citizenry second. It is okay to belong to a party, just remember the purpose. Do not be like sheeple!
I also agree with what I have read above. I like the fact that the Party hates no one and is not connected to a political party. It is also very important to educate voters that some political leaders are so grossly mis-informed about what this country is about that they should not be allowed to hold any public offices.
One of the best sources of information I have read about this is right here.
Keep going Thank you and all the best

I’m tired of them dumbocraps trying to take away our freedom and make us be like France.
Democrats are liberal with my money, and Republicans are conservative with my freedom. If we are such stupid rudderless sheep that we need the DEA to protect us from a weed, can you wonder at the rest of the problem?
What do y’all tea partiers think about the war in Iraq and Afghanistan? Necessary evils or monumental failures? Definately some Constitutional arguments there…
Yes, I have been disgusted w/the goverment for years, it is not about the left or right but the freedom of Americans. We need to contiune to voice out our concerns over a goverment take over. We live for now, our childeren and grandchildern are the future, we must not let them down.
Tea Party activists make me ashamed to be republican. Your stupidity and utter refusal to see facts makes balanced people laugh at you and your far right agenda.
Are you organizing anything for 8/28?
